MADE is seeking a Design Intern with graphic design skills, basic web knowledge, as well as an interest in architecture / design / planning or public art to provide graphic and other design assistance for our Inclusive Design Series.  Your work will need to be produced in collaboration with the MADE Marketing Committee and the Inclusive Design Series advisory group.

The Design Intern will be required to design promotional graphics for upcoming events (posters and web banners), with a consistent, recognizable identity for the MADE Inclusive Design Series. They will be given a task and direction by the MADE Board and/or Marketing Committee which may include things such as social media banners, event posters, a logo or series identity or collecting and arranging images and content for a web blog post.  You will be expected to commit approximately 4 hours per week to this work, on a flexible schedule, and firm deadlines must be met.

The internship will be for a duration of four months (September - December 2015), and you will be compensated by the Government of Alberta via a $1000 bursary distributed by SCIP.

Applicants must have:

  • Education or experience in a related field: graphic design, visual communication design, architecture, urban design, art, or industrial design.

  • A working knowledge of design software, e.g. Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator

  • A computer with the necessary software to complete your work

  • The ability to receive direction / input, and work independently to meet deadlines

  • Availability to attend 1-2 evening meetings in downtown Edmonton each month


Additional assets would include:

  • Familiarity with social media platforms, and web publishing (specifically Squarespace)

  • Knowledge on the subject of Inclusive Design, and how it affects the design process

  • A desire to increase and improve the design conversation in Edmonton!
