Think Roman Gladiator chariots meets chuckwagon racing meets dog sledding! As part of the Flying Canoë Volant Festival, MADE (Media Architecture Design Edmonton) is hosting a call for entries for custom-designed chariots to be built, assembled harnessed and pulled along by a pair of winter-ready fat-bikes to help re-think how Edmontonians experience winter!
MADE is looking for teams to design, build and assemble these chariots and then harness them to two fat-bikes. Teams can be of any size, but each racing team will be comprised of two fat-bike riders and one chariot pilot. Teams will race against each other for glory and prizes!
The race will be held on an outdoor course in La Cité Francophone as part of the Flying Canoë Festival on Saturday, February 6 2016. Have a chariot but no fat-bike? Or have a fat-bike but no chariot? No worries! Just let us know and we will endeavor to pair riders & pilots together! This race will also take place regardless of weather conditions or snowpack, so please be prepared!
Do you have a design and want to test it out? Our friends at the Deep Freeze Byzantine Winter Festival have set aside space for us near Alberta Avenue to test out your prototype on January 10th! This event will also give the public a sneak peek of what to expect before the big event at the Flying Canoë Festival.
The Call for entries opens: Thursday December 17th 2015
